Julia Alora is a Portland Oregon based sculptoress creating biologically influenced sculptures out of recycled materials. Born and raised in the wilds of upstate NY, her love of the natural world drives her to find beauty in everything, at times expressing this through sharp, fierce grotesqueries, or smooth, living visions of steel and glass. Her creations hearken to the viewers to consider their connection to nature, their responsibilities to the world and to others. She incorporates ethically sourced bone, junk yard steel, dumpster treasures, and other found objects, into lovingly made monsters and figures. Dabbling with other mediums such as watercolor, costuming, print making, and clay sculpting allows her to indulge in creation without taking things too seriously. Her work can be found in galleries around Portland, the Manifestation sculpture garden, and festivals around the country.
"I want a connection.
A brief moment of simultaneous stimuli
I want us to be more than strangers
To know our winding paths have crossed
And left seeds planted in your brain
That will bloom when they are ready."
